Social Network for RSA Fellows
A voice from RSA Projects
I've just been interviewed by Belinda for this site which fills me at once with dread (does my voice really sound like that?) and excitement (in fulfilling a lifelong dream of being famous...) but which also provided me with an opportunity to explore further what the Fellowship Council might mean to me, my work and the RSA more generally.
One of the RSA's USPs is undoubtedly the fellows but if I'm honest one of the more difficult parts of my job has been finding ways of working with them at every stage. Our projects are exciting and understandably fellows want to be involved but the sheer number of requests for information and asks to be involved can sometimes be unmanageable which has in the past created barriers to effective working. At the same time I should point out that we also have some fantastic examples of where the barriers have not arisen or been overcome (Prison Learning Network / Environment Award Forum to name just a couple of my projects).
I think this has arisen partly because there has been little clarity around what it means to be an FRSA to the Fellow themselves, to the RSA and to Projects. So I am looking forward to the Charter and the ongoing conversation about how we might work collaboratively together: we are, afterall, working towards a shared vision of a more equal, fair, prosperous society. And I look forward to being part of it.

As a very recent Fellow, your comments resonate with me, Rebecca. And it is good to see and hear a voice from RSA projects.
From my perspective, the enthusiasm of wanting to be involved yet not knowing quite how to do so in the most productive way, and finding out where skills and knowledge could be best applied, can lead to overwhelm in both directions. I think the initiative of having a forum for exchanging information and exploring collaborative possibilities is very positive.
I too look forward to working towards a shared vision of a more equal, fair, prosperous society, and to participating and being a contribution.
