RSA Fellowship Social Network

Social Network for RSA Fellows

I was elected to the Fellowship Council as the International representative. The Council members will first meet together at the RSA AGM on October 7th 2009. Whether you are in Africa, Australia, Europe, India, the USA or elsewhere outside the UK, please help me to understand what issues are uppermost on your mind. I want to help by providing a voice for overseas fellows at Council and also help propagate UK programmes and discussions overseas.

Please feel free to post comments below that are relevant to your experience as an overseas fellow.

Cheryl - I am in the Washington DC metro area.  I would love to connect when you are next over here - although we are doing a pretty good job via this ning!  We are working on a network event in Edmonton in March, and I am hearing from WA State Fellows that it's time to get something going a little closer to home.  I will add you to the US mailing list if you would like to send me your email.  Mine is LBroadbent@rsa-us.org.  You can also keep an eye on US events and news at www.rsa-us.org

Best for this Holiday week!

Hi Lynne

Good to hear from you.  Where are you located in the USA?  I have homes in Raglan Wales and  in Seattle.  My main residence is in the US but I do get to Seattle at least once a year.  In 2011 I  am planning to be in Seattle in March and then over the summer.  Would be happy to work with you to extend/expand RSA while I am there.  Let me know how I might help.

Dear Cheryl

I think RSA has supported some very interesting projects in the Education domain and it would be very good to promote RSA to your colleagues at iEARN. With specific reference to the Pacific Northwest USA - I am no longer familiar with which fellows are active in the Seattle area but I will reach out to Lynn Broadbent, who looks after RSA-USA and see if there is a fellow or fellowship network there that she can connect you with.

I am a member of iEARN  International, (International Education and Resources Network).  iEARN is a federation of 130 countries that have pioneered on-line collaborative project based learning programmes for youth since 1990.  Through my many years with iEARN I have made many friendships with outstanding educators from every continent.  What I would like to know is how/whether to recommend these colleagues to FRSA.  I believe that they would be a fantastic force for innovation and fellowship within FRSA

I am a member from Seattle, USA but living (and working) in UK since 1991.  I would be happy to share my experience in working within a global network of educators as RSA develops a truly international network.  When I was in Seattle last summer I tried to access information about joining RSA for a fellow educator but couldn't find any network in the Pacific Northwest.

Glad to hear there is interest in the Washington State area.  My next trip to USA takes me to the South (my husband and I are taking a Great Rail Journey of the Deep South in February/March 2011 -- from Atlanta to New Orleans and back followed by a fortnight in Seattle).  I would be very happy to be included on the US mailing list and have contacted a friend in California who would be a perfect fellow for RSA USA.

Warmly,

Cheryl

Cheryl-Hello! It would be good to have an US RSA Education network with subdivisions: Early Childhood, Elementary,

Secondary, University  and Life Span Education.  An on-going discussion among Fellows in all regions could be very

valuable. Surely a world view is sobering. There are several organizations here and abroad that work to improve/study/

support education, each with a point of view that reflects its founding principles. Several RSA Projects are operating in

education, here and in other countries that reflect our values and purposes. Do we know what they all are?

I'd go so far as to say that even though we are part of the UK, we (in Northern Ireland) may as well be India or Madagascar. To combat this, we're going to kickstart things ourselves. Moving from the led to the leader. Watch this space.

I'm not a fellow yet. I was invited to join on the basis of our work in Russia sourcing the Tomsk Regional Initiative.

Our social enterprise activity in Eastern Europe spans more than a decade and takes us to the death of our founder, who is remembered by local civic activists.

As a maverick, he won't be remembered at all within the world of social enterprise but I raise the concern he had, that what we see today could easily turn social enterprise into a vehicle for slush funds.

I ma greatly concerned at the way we as an organisation who invested our financial surplus and our founder life in addressing a key social issue, have essentially been brushed aside by those we introduced our work to.
