The RSA’s new online communities manager: introducing myself…
Hello to the 90+ of you who members of the RSAde group,
I thought I’d introduce myself to you all…
I’m the new online communities manager here at the RSA – my full title is ‘Senior Networks Manager – Online & International’.
It’s a new role here at the RSA – I’d love to hear your suggestions for possible improvements online. Maybe you’ve spotted something good elsewhere that the RSA could perhaps be doing itself?
Also, I’ll be developing some online communities FAQs – so please share with me any problems you’ve encountered too. (On the more positive side, I’d love to hear about any examples of when the RSA’s social media has really helped you, as well).
There are also plans for a new RSA Fellowship blog - so keep an eye out for that soon.
I’ve had experience with online communities going over back over quite a number of years. I will be working closely with RSAde group members to help Fellows to engage, network and make a difference using social media. (So far this has included people such as Vivs, Roxanne, Jemima, Charlotte and Michael).
I’ve also been encouraging people to join us in the RSAde group here – if they want to get more involved, lend a hand, or just keep track of developments in the online space.
Also, do please use your vote in the RSA’s Oct. 5th AGM – there are important resolutions to vote on (both from the RSA’s Trustees and from Fellows). This can quickly be done with an online proxy vote now. This page tells you how: http://www.thersa.org/about-us/governance

Hello Matthew - welcome to your new post and all the very best with it!
I consider myself pretty computer literate - but find myself completely daunted by the vast proliferation of sites, pages, etc related to the RSA - there are lots of RSA sites and networks and pages, and the linked in, facebook, twitter etc etc etc
I never know where to look for information - so often dont look at all which is very sad.
I recently wanted to start up a discussion about the 21 hour week idea - but got some way with the process and then it said I needed the networks manager to do something so got very discouraged...
I am a member of the London COmmittee - and you will probably be made aware that there have been discussions with Sam Thomas about having some pages where we have control of content - Sam seemed to think this was not possible and now the Committee are considering setting up yet another website...
It would be brilliant for the average Fellow if EVERYTHING were visible, accessible and obvious from an RSA homepage and it felt like all one website - even if in fact we were being directed to differently controlled areas - It would seem an obvious step for all the regions / networks to have their own sections (the news where you are) within which they have the opportunity to upload info about events etc quickly....
Anyway - sure the much more expert digital engagement activists will have loads more input

Good to hear from you both :-)
One of the things we've begun to develop is a draft webpage with help/FAQs/guidance for the different social media spaces. I hope this will help Fellows.
Wendy, when you say you tried to post a 'discussion' on the 21-hour week idea, was that on this RSAFellowship.com community site that we're on now?
You may know that the RSA is moving towards developing a new online Fellowship platform - which will bring some of the unity and clarification that you are calling for.
In the meantime, there are ways we can display what's going on in the various RSA social media spaces all in one place - this might make it easier for people to navigate all these islands of online conversation activity! It's certainly an issue I'm thinking about.
I'd welcome further feedback on any of these topics.

At the moment I'm pulling together various elements for an RSA online communities guidance page - one particular thing is developing an informal list of regional digital champions. In other words, Fellows who are on hand when people find themsleves stuck, for whatever reason, or just in general need of encouragement and ideas.
Digital champions is an idea that was, I think, discussed at the May RSA digital engagement (RSAde) group national meeting (a while before I joined the RSA, last month).
These champions were dubbed RSAde'rs (ie RS-aiders, as it were).
It seems to me that these RSAde'rs could help and encourage more Fellows to report on, comment on etc RSA activities in all the various online spaces that are out there.
Would you like to be one of these digital champions yourself?
(Should it ever get arduous, you could just take your name off the list, or forward any queries to me!)

Review of RSA Fellowship nings, social networks
Over the next few months the RSAde Group will be consolidating regional social networks and nings.
The aim will be to improve connectivity for Fellows, improve communication and reduce fragmentation.
