Fairtrade Fortnight 22 February - 7 March 2010

'Fairtrade Fortnight'
is a campaign organised by the Fairtrade Foundation in the UK. Active supporters of Fairtrade will be organising events in your area -- town squares, community centres, schools, universities, churches, councils, etc. Events such as temporary market stalls selling Fairtrade food, hosted talks and slide shows and screenings of 'Black Gold' and retail shops will which support Fairtrade will put these products out front and centre.

What can Fellows do?
(a) Invite a couple of Traidcraft volunteers to set up a temporary 'tuk shop' in your office canteen or foyer for a couple of hours each day. Traidcraft have an army of key contacts which can install themselves anywhere you have space and people with the munchies (chocolates, Geo bars, biscuits, snacks). Send me a private message if this appeals or check links below.
(b) If your child belongs to a Fairtrade certified school or uni find out the contact name at the school and offer to help. Stalls may need a volunteer for a couple hours a day to man a stall, paint a sign, dress up in a banana suit, computer skills computers/blog
(c) If you are a journalist, consider writing about Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight
(d) Fairtrade Fortnight is a good time to badger your office canteen manager or similar to consider switching to Fairtrade tea/coffee and advertise with posters
(e) If you operate a business that already supports Fairtrade then it ought to be mentioned on your company website
(f) Take some time out and watch 'Black Gold', a film which tracks the lives of Ethiopian coffee producers and gives an insight into the commodity of coffee from the viewpoint of farmer through to brokers sitting in front of computer screens. Copies of the DVD will be available at the library, school or council
(g) Fairtrade Fortnight is like coming out of the closet about being a Fairtrade supporter and the possibilities are endless!!! Although Fairtrade has grown in popularity, there is scope for more growth.
(h) Numerous towns and cities are now certified Fairtrade entities and as such must be seen to actively support Fairtrade all over a specific town--see what's on offer in your area!!!
