Social Network for RSA Fellows

There is a need for high quality school governors to contribute to the leadership and development of schools throughout the UK.

I am a member of a school governing body and we are looking for enlightened minds to come and help secure the highest of standards in Stevenage, Herts.

Can you come and join the discussion?

See the attached file for details.

In many respects, looking for "high quality" school governors is almost stage 2 - there is a shortage of "any quality" school governors! And whilst I can't comment about the specific requirements at your school, and you don't state which category of governor you are looking for (LEA, Community, Parent, Staff etc) I can't help but feel that you are setting a high bar with your wishlist...

I'm now a Governor at two schools (my eldest daughter has just started school, and they had a long-standing parent governor vacancy) and feel that both schools benefit from the eclectic mix on their GBs - I think the only essential skill that anybody needs to bring is enthusiasm.

In Hampshire, we are fortunate that a wide ranging training program is available for Governors (probably similar to the "personal development" that you refer to in your advert) which allow Governors to learn necessary skills.

A Governing Body should not be full of Belbinesque Shapers, you need a team - so I would suggest focussing on getting enthusiastic people on board, and worry about getting them fully trained afterwards.
