How can Fellows support the RSA Academy?

The RSA Academy is in the process of completing it's new building in Tipton and has just received a very successful Ofsted report 'Good progress, with Outstanding Capacity for continued improvement’. The school is a very exciting place to visit with its range of progressive practices based on the Opening Minds curriculum.

Many Fellows have asked what they can do to support and enrich the work of the Academy and below are some suggested ways that Fellows can volunteer some time and experience to the school.

- give specialist lessons e.g. ceramics etc
- give specialist talks on careers/experiences for enrichment programme
- offer some work experience
- join this group to show support of the innovative work
- or leave a comment below!

If you are interested, please contact Leslie James at the RSA Academy to discuss.

I am the Co-Founder, first Patron Member, former Director and Company Secretary of Surdhwani [Co. Ltd by Guarantee & a Registered Charity] and also the Co-Founder, Co-Producer & Co-Presenter of Surtarang [Wave of Melody] Broadcast worldwide via www.surtarang.co.uk & www.wcrfm.com

Recently, I was invited by the Principal of the RSA Academy to attend the inauguration of the Performing Arts Theatre.

I was most impressed with the Academy staff, students and lecturers and all the facilities available for students and teachers alike. I would love to learn more about the partnership project between the US Fellows and the RSA Academy @ Tipton.

The Taylor Theatre is very impressive and I am proud that we have such a theatre in the West Midlands. I will try my best to help the Academy in any I can albeit I am retired and broadcast as a volunteer for the Wolverhampton City Radio.

I am chairman of iEARN UK - a member of the International education and resources network with programmes in over 130 countries around the world.  Through iEARN we offer training for teachers and students as well as the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of projects with schools around the world.  I have followed the opening minds curriculum for many years and am a big fan.  Would love to learn more about what you are developing at Tipton

If you want to partner a US school, you might consider linking through I EARN http://www.iearn.org/ where the schools can collaborate on online projects etc.  There are other programmes supporting the International Dimension in Education too - let me know if you want more suggestions.

A group of US Fellows is exploring an idea to partner up a local US school with Tipton; this could take the form of video link-ups, cooperative enrichment programs/speakers, perhaps even student exchange opportunities. Watch this space!

Yes, I am sure everyone wants to know about my experiences of failure - will make them all feel better and more confident!
