Social Network for RSA Fellows

Cultural Philanthropy

Information

Cultural Philanthropy

Philanthropy is defined as the desire to promote the welfare of others.

This group is initially looking at ethics, opportunities by sharing stories, skills and learning.

Working with Cultivate we are running a series of roundtable sessions to start the philanthropy conversation.

Location: East Midlands (pilot)
Members: 40
Latest Activity: Apr 8

Philanthropy Network

This is a group for Fellows (and friends and colleagues) interested in exploring and developing a culture of philanthropy across the Fellowship.

It would be useful to have some suggestions recommendations for this group to explore and discuss.

I personally am interested in finding out more about philanthropy (crowdsourcing, fundraising, pro-bono support and sponsorship) in the context of the RSA.  We are looking at ways to support and help Fellows developing projects that need and require fundraising and philanthropic support.

We have held three roundtables with Cultivate across the East Midlands (notes below). We are currently discussing next steps to move this group forward - if you would like to be involved please let me know.

Hi everyone - I am working with the People's Orchestra in West Brom and wanted to give Midlands members and others interested head's up to our musical ensemble. The People's Orchestra is a conscientious home for grade 7 and above musicians who lost their instruments after compulsory education but their passion for performance remains. We are fundraising for bursaries for 10 more musicians and their instruments. Here is a video of Charlotte, who learned to play the saxophone in ....

Because of how the government does music education, 20 years ago they announced there were too many violinists. As a result, the orchestra has 12 flautists! We are supported by composers including John Altman.

Most importantly, please bring your classic and jazz inclined friends to our auditions at the Custard Factory Digbeth, Birmingham B9 4AA on 15 July. Check out the People's Orchestra website for more info.

RSA London City Network next meeting

I am organising the next three London City Network meetings at the Coach Makers Arms, Marylebone Lane W1U 2PY and hope you will come and support the group. The first is on the Monday 14th May at 6.30pm on the subject of Philanthropy and the RSA. Susan Bennett will be speaking on the history of the RSA followed by a discussion on how today's Fellows match up to the work carried out by our predecessors. The second meeting on 11th June is 'Business and Social Philanthropy'; and the third on 9th July is 'The Value of Experience: Older people and Social Philanthropy'.

Unfortunately the Coach Makers is now charging for the hire of the room so Fellows will be asked to contribute £10.00 at the door, £5.00 concs. Sorry about that but it will be worth it.

I thought members of this group might like to see my new venture - a philanthropic crowdfunding site with built-in Gift Aid capability.

AngelShares.com is always looking for new arts and cultural projects across the UK that are seeking funding, so if you are interested please email me at hello@AngelShares.com
