RSATop5: Readers' Group

Open group for all interested in discussing and debating current lectures and books available through the RSA.

Members: 24
Latest Activity: Feb 18

RSATop5 is a new initiative linking Fellows and followers of RSA events with the RSA Fellows' Library.  Launching in May 2011 we will look back on books written by RSA Events speakers from the past lecture season and ask members of this Readers Group to create a shortlist of 10 books.  This shortlist will become an online poll to be made available on the RSA website where all can vote for their RSA Top 5 reads of the season.  The plan is to have three polls per year, linked to the RSA Events Lecture series.

This group is open to all Fellows (and their friends and colleagues) who are interested in discussing and debating current lectures and books available through the RSA.

Please sign up and recommend your highlights of this season of speakers.  This group will also welcome submissions for potential speakers, authors and books for the RSA Library.

Hello all!

We've made a long-list of books and their related lectures from the past three months. There are links to the audio from the lectures and copies of the books available to borrow from the Library in there.

It's really quite long, though (hence making a short-list!), so we'll also be making individual discussions for each over the next few days.

The first couple, for Dambisa Moyo and Oliver Burkeman, are up now.

I look forward to the suggestions from this group.  Knowing which books to focus ones attention on is essential with all the conflicting demands we each face on our time.

We'll be creating a list of mustreads from each lecture season for the public poll which will follow. The top 5 will be selected from our list. We will be assisted by Kirsti from the events team and Chris from the library.

Please use the discussion forum to start new threads about particular books or issues.

RSA Animate - The Big Erase

For those die-hard RSA Animate fans, here's a little glimpse at what we like to do after all that hard work. Rising star in the field of neuroscience Sebastian Seung argues that our identity lies not in our genes but in the connections between our brain cells – and he describes the monumental task of mapping these “connectomes”, neuron by neuron, synapse by synapse.
