David, I wonder if you could give us an update on what is happening here? I'm very interested in hearing more...

To add to David's point, we produced the Agile Learning Newspaper using newspaperclub.co.uk built around the concept of 'Conversations about Learning' Longer versions of the conversations are on his blog (Link below). We want to turn this into a book and wondered who followers of this group think might be worth interviewing. Agile is about discussing fresh responses to learning in the current climate of constraint, cuts and possibly collapsonomics. Suggestions for topics, like Learning Identities in a Digital World, or people, like Sugata Mitra, are most welcome.

As you can see, not a lot going on in this forum. However, activity is taking place elsewhere. Fred Garnett (FRSA), I and others have just edited a newspaper (physical and online) based on some interviews I did last year around self-organised learning.

There's more over here on my blog, and below

While we're still sorting ourselves out in terms of Fellows' activity, members of this group may be interested in a parallel meet-up group (London-based) that frequently deals with self-organised learning. And, of course, it self-organises, including a reflection and planning discussion this coming Wednesday in the Royal Festival Hall. Details are here. Open to anyone.

David

I agree with you entirely on the ways in which learning and development projects are managed and funded, I was trying to suggest more in terms of public and community involvement rather than preserving funding per se. I'll come back on this, but I don't think we are at odds just refelcting our backgraounds and experience.

Cheers

Nigel

Nigel, I guess that's a matter of small-p political tactics. I confess I was taking the political climate, and the non-availability of 'more' funds as a given. With that premise, we can either just shrug and give up -- which will lead to the contraction of learning activity and the economy -- or try and work out what we can do with 'less'. If we take the latter route, we might surprise ourselves and others.

In my personal experience in the last 18 months (not with you or with Becta, I hasten to add), I've worked on an outsourced public sector learning project that I'm convinced would have been more effective if its architects had had to work with a budget 25% the size of the one they were given. I've heard enough tales of procurement debacles to believe this is not an isolated case.

David, I'd like to say that doing more with less may be a hostage to fortune in the current political climate, I think we might be saying we want to do more with more, in the sense that we want to increase public participation in the framing and creation of learning experiences, but with less central interference and direction from finance/economics dominated policy positions.

Tessa, if you can tell me how to pick a date and set it up and the RSA that would be great! Do I need to talk to Laura?

A PK event would be great Fred! How can I help?

Hi everyone, I am happy to go along with Davids suggestions for a Pecha Kulcha session on Learner-Generated Contexts and Ambient LEarning Cities, which links to the EU i2015. Maybe Roger Blamire could do a PK on EU policy and expectations for 2015? Should we be suggesting dates?
Those of you involved with the Glory of Failure group might be interested to know that everyone in LGC has failed spectacularly, often several times
