RSA Fellowship Social Network

Social Network for RSA Fellows

There's been a lot in the media about the tax avoidance strategies adopted by various multinational corporations. UK Uncut has been highly effective at raising the issue of tax avoidance and whilst (being a tax consultant) I would broadly support any person's right to arrange their tax affairs in the best way they see fit, I can understand the outrage from individuals who probably do not understand the technicalities of the UK tax system and can thus be easily led by snappy headlines. Behind the headlines are a variety of levels of tax avoidance, most of them most people wouldn't worry about, some most people (including me) would be outraged by.

Putting aside whether Barclays is doing anything wrong, it seems to me there is a distinct opportunity for large social enterprises here - to take the moral high ground on tax avoidance and disclose crazy amounts of information about their own tax position. This can be used to full marketing effect to build the brand of those entities as morally superior offerings who you should be spending your hard-earned money with.

This is only going to work for those with large overseas operation like Co-Op Bank, Charities Bank, Cafe Direct, any others? Wonder if any of them want to take the lead?
