RSA Fellowship Social Network

Social Network for RSA Fellows

Hello all (and hopefully an expanding all as there's only five of us so far) Unfortunately, I have made a commitment to a professionals' peer support group that meets every third Thursday of the month, so I've only been able to attend one of the North Oxfordshire group meetings.  Rather than remain outside the group, I was prompted by another Fellow to be a tad more proactive hence this message. Every month, for the last 55 consecutive months, I have held an informal work-related networking meeting at a pub in Oxford.  Known as the "Informal drink with Graham" we meet at the Victoria Arms in Old Marston, scene of much Morse filming and, perhaps more significantly where Cromwell rested during the Civil War.  We gather around 6:30pm and talk until we decide to leave - usually around 9:30pm.  There's no fee and no formality.  The group varies in size from half a dozen to 20, and we are all somehow involved in the world of work - that's the common thread - not business, necessarily; not as entrepreneurs or self-employed necessarily; nor even remunerated necessarily (though most of us do work for a living).  If you'd like to read a little more there's a page on one of my websites (http://www.the-confidant.info/oxforddrink/ ). If you're free on the 5th November, when the next is held, you'd be very welcome to join us.  You don't have to let me know in advance, but if you do, I shall try to remember to wear a button-hole or carry a rolled up copy of the Times so it's easier to recognise me
For a while, I have been wondering if there's an appetite in the North Oxfordshire area for Fellows to support each other in a mutual way rather than just supporting external good works? Quite what this might be like, I don't know, though I am an advocate of peer-support generally.  I am mindful that the cooperative movement is experiencing unprecedented growth at the moment and one of the latest iterations is the "business and employment cooperative" (
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_and_employment_co-operative) and one idea might be for us to consider establishing such a venture. Whatever form this might take, and whether it actually took off or not, I wondered if anyone would care to meet with the idea of exploring the possibility of collaboration across our respective day jobs rather than something external?
Just a few thoughts.
Best wishes
Graham

I commend this initiative especially as there has always been a need for RSA gatherings in Oxford.  By the way we are currently looking for Fellow RSA members to join us in the Thames Valley Regional Events Team.  I don't know if this would be of interest to you, or any other Fellow with some initiative and drive to organise events.  There is ample scope of course for furthering the principles of collaboration through related events.
