The Althea Wynne Bursary

Althea Wynne, FRSA, a noted Wiltshire sculptor who worked in bronze and clay, died together with her husband Anthony Barrington Brown in a traffic accident in January 2012. Throughout her career Althea was generous in sharing her considerable skill in teaching others and her enthusiasm was an inspiration for many. Anthony was a professional photographer working in both still and moving images and was a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.

Althea was a strong supporter of the sculpture exhibitions staged by the Friends of the Garden, initially at Urchfont Manor and more recently at Avebury Manor.  In association with Althea’s family, and Arts and Heritage, Wiltshire Council, The Friends of the Garden are pleased to sponsor a bursary in memory of Althea.

As a reflection of the interests of the work of both Althea and Anthony, this bursary is designed to provide an artist living or working in Wiltshire, with the funds to engage a professional photographer.

In order to be eligible to apply for this bursary artists must;

- be working in any 3D medium including furniture but excluding jewellery

- have completed a formal arts education or served an appropriate apprenticeship

- be working as a professional artist

- be able to show how their portfolio would reach a new audience as a result of the award

In addition those artists shortlisted for the award will be given the opportunity to jointly stage an exhibition of their work in the Young Gallery in Salisbury during December 2013 and at Pound Arts, Corsham in January 2014. The bursary award of £1,000 will be made at the private view to the exhibition at Pound Arts. The winning artist will also be invited to take part in the Friends next exhibition to be held in 2014 at West Lavington Manor.

The closing date for applications is 30 April 2013. For details of how to apply please call Lesley Andrews on 01672 540180 or email her Lesley.andrews@virgin.net.

Saturday 23rd March is the date set for Bristol's first Mini Maker Faire, a family-friendly event at which people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

It takes place at M Shed, and is one of the community-driven, independently produced Mini Maker Faire events inspired by the Maker Faires in the US.

Typically, Maker Faires and Mini Maker faires include stalls run by those who are involved in Robotics, Music Performance and Participation, Textile Arts and Crafts, Bicycles, Kites, Green Tech, Puppets, Home Energy Monitoring, Rockets and RC Toys, 3D printing, Radios, Vintage Computers and Game Systems, Electric Vehicles, Biology/Biotech and Chemistry Projects, Shelter (Tents, Domes, etc.), Unusual Tools or Machines, and How to Fix Things or Take them Apart (Vacuums, Clocks, Washing Machines, etc.)

The organisers are currently looking for makers who would enjoy being part of this show-and-tell event, and invite anyone who is interested to contact them via this online form: http://tinyurl.com/Call2MakersBMMF

For an taste of what you might expect to find at M Shed on 23rd March, see the  Brighton Mini Maker Faire.

Please feel free to circulate this widely!

Many thanks to those of you who came to the Ideas Cafe in Bath and gave me such useful input for the Dementia Friendly Bath initiative. It's moving along well with support from the B&NES Health and Wellbeing Board and others. I'll keep you posted! Best wishes to all.

I've created a Storify drawing together social media to create a write up of the West Region Ideas Cafe in Bath last week. Thanks to all those who helped make it a success and sent tweaks and pics for me to include.

Hello everyone, I'm Frank Hutton, a recruitment business owner and now career coach. Great to see this is now live but still only 13 of us on here. How can we spread the word to other fellows?

Review of RSA Fellowship nings, social networks

Over the next few months the RSAde Group will be consolidating regional social networks and nings. The aim will be to improve connectivity for Fellows, improve communication and reduce fragmentation.

Therefore there will be an increase of regional and thematic groups over the next few months.

If you would like further information on these changes please contact the RSAde team via the Digital Engagement group on this network.
