Linking With Youth

This is a group to discuss and make progress on the proposal for a fellowship-led youth linking initiative.

Mobilising the FRSA to link, in a structured way, with young people in order to provide information, advice, guidance and support.

The broad outline is to build a network of young people, and tap into existing networks, creating an active link, both live and online, between young people and the FRSA.

The motivation and focus for bringing these groups together is to:

1). develop a structured and networked approach for the FRSA to provide ongoing information, advice, guidance and support to young people throughout the country (and vice versa)

2). provide the means for young people to support each other, develop networks and partnerships, and to generate ideas, innovation, enterprise and social action

3). create the opportunity for the sharing of social capital

Please, please vote in the Chair elections to help make a difference.

There are only 5 days left to vote. If you dont vote, we will get what we have always got. It is clear from the survey responses that young Fellows want to be more connected, networked and appropriately involved/ informed. Lets make this happen!…Continue

My overall reflection on the meeting was that it was extremely positive, there was a general consensus that this initiative could offer much value and it is definitely viable.  It was a great testament to the concept that an hour after the meeting…Continue

Thanks Matt - great concept. My suggestion would be to lead with face to face events, specific projects, and one to one relationship building ... with online in support, using existing systems as far as possible, and any funding concentrated on facilitation rather than tech. Particularly in RSA:-)

Here is the final concept piece for the initiative.  Thoughts and feedback are very much appreciated.

Hi Jacob,

thanks for that information, and it's great to hear that the RSA are going to be taking in young fellows, and who may well be perfect candidates to support the work we are doing in this group for 13 - 19 year olds.

This contact could prove very useful, please do mention us to them, they should feel free to get in touch. We will formally be identifying partner organisations a bit further down the line.

Hi Matt,

I messaged you earlier and mentioned the Young Foundation's Uprisers programme: http://uprising.org.uk/. I understand that some of the graduates from this programme will be joining RSA as fellows, so they might well provide a good pool of contacts etc. for the slightly younger cohort that link with youth targets.

I'll be talking to the Uprisers folk again soon - would this contact be worth making?

Pleased to share that Andre Campbell from Enfuse Youth and Naomi Jane from Sponsors for Educational Opportunities (SEO) London have now joined the steering group.

Our next meeting is the 7th June, the agenda can be found on the 'Steering group meeting notes and reflections' discussion board, or download it here.

Hi Matt,

I wanted to introduce myself and maybe pick your brains on what you think is working well/ less well in London. I'm going to be standing for London Chair. Are you still intending to be at the event in Oxford Street today? If so, hope to see you there.

Best Wishes

Barbara

Hi Emrys,  would be really happy for you to be involved.  We'll be sure to post all updates and events news here.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make Thursday's event.  But as someone who's been a fellow since the age of 20 and currently working on a range of youth initiatives nationwide I'm very interested in how this progresses.  Hopefully I'll make a meeting soon.

The latest RSAnimate is very relevant to this initiative.

Thanks David.  We'll definitely be following up with Nominet, and this challenge sounds very relevant.
