Social Network for RSA Fellows

Linking With Youth

Information

Linking With Youth

This is a group to discuss and make progress on the proposal for a fellowship-led youth linking initiative.

Mobilising the FRSA to link, in a structured way, with young people in order to provide information, advice, guidance and support.

The broad outline is to build a network of young people, and tap into existing networks, creating an active link, both live and online, between young people and the FRSA.

The motivation and focus for bringing these groups together is to:

1). develop a structured and networked approach for the FRSA to provide ongoing information, advice, guidance and support to young people throughout the country (and vice versa)

2). provide the means for young people to support each other, develop networks and partnerships, and to generate ideas, innovation, enterprise and social action

3). create the opportunity for the sharing of social capital

Hi Group,

I wanted to draw your attention to the work of 2020 Education.  They are looking for innovative and creative projects run by young people and teachers that are aiming to improve society.  They want support and projects to showcase.  Check out the link if your interested. http://www.rsablogs.org.uk/2013/fellowship/2020-education-post/

Thanks

Thanks for the update Matt. Do get in touch with the London Region team to explore ways we could help local Fellows get more engaged with this project.

Hi all, I've written a new blog here, to try to capture the issues and the proposed solutions of this group.

Thoughts, comments and sharing on Twitter/LinkedIn, etc, of the blog would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I thought I would do a belt and braces on the email sent to everyone....i just think young people doing their own thing is right in the moment!

A message from Ian Lewis to all members of Linking With Youth on RSA Fellowship Social Network!

You may know one or two 18-30 existing or potential leaders who would be interested in a leadership development opportunity being held near Oxford from 31st August-2nd Sept 2012.  It has been created by young people for young people.  It is free from the point of arrival. It is part of the International Youth Forum. There were 60 places. Young people in their global leadership role will tell you the rest at http://www.ccbuk.blogspot.co.uk/

Apologies to all for the delay in updating the group.

We have been invited to re-apply for the Catalyst Fund in September.  The board had some issues over the clarity of our solution to the identified needs, and duplication with other projects including the development of the work of the RSA Projects team itself.

We will be submitting again after the holidays, and I will be speaking with Alex Watson before then to get some further clarity on their concerns.

This will mean that the planned events provisionally scheduled for October and to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week in November will have to wait, I'd imagine till either late 2012 or early 2013.

Thank you to everyone for their support so far, and hopefully this will only be a minor hurdle.

Hi Ndidi,

welcome to the RSA and to this group. Very glad to have you involved, once we get off the ground there will be plenty of opportunity.  If you message me your e-mail address I'll be sure to add you to the mailing list.

Thanks

Hi all,

New member here.

This sounds incredibly exciting and so important! I wonder if you can provide an update on the current status of the project?

I would really like to volunteer to be involved in this in any way I can.

Thanks

Ndidi

Hi Matt, Sorry I've just got around to reading the concept piece again with a chance to comment.  It all looks good and the intended results are good.  However, my work to date does show that totally creating new online social networks is a daunting and often not inclusive task.  This side of the work will certainly take a lot of connecting up and utilisation of existing digital networks.  I agree with David about taking forward the face to face where possible.

I manage the development of the youth network for Arts Award - funded by Arts Council England.  We'll be running about 20 networking events around England in the coming months and launching a new online platform next month (importantly this is not a new social network, and slots in to a wider social strategy).  I would love to get fellows more involved in these events as although they're quite specific to the arts many of the young people attending would be looking in to a wide range of careers.  Arts Award is about developing leadership, communication and industry understanding.

Thanks,

Em

Review of RSA Fellowship nings, social networks

Over the next few months the RSAde Group will be consolidating regional social networks and nings. The aim will be to improve connectivity for Fellows, improve communication and reduce fragmentation.

Therefore there will be an increase of regional and thematic groups over the next few months.

If you would like further information on these changes please contact the RSAde team via the Digital Engagement group on this network.
