Fellows in Business

This group is intended for Fellows who are business people engaged in commerce. You don't have to be an entrepreneur, have a social purpose, or even be profitable.Once a few people sign up we can discuss what the group might want to do and how it might do that.Remember: engaging in discussions online is important.  It helps people to get to know you, and to decide whether they like you.  This is crucial before they can trust you and so recommend you to their own precious networks.  Even if you…See More

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement
"Yes John. I'm not suggesting offline exclusively,  As you must realise, with 1500 twitter followers, a similar number on LinkedIn, and on ecademy, I do believe in the use of online social media too.  But, as you say, "eventually…"

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement
"I don't quite understand why there is a need to go to storify, but the range of tweets and retweets that your thread there seems to have prompted does seem very worthwhile.  What a shame they couldn't happen here. Two points in…"

"Thanks David.  I will follow up her link - it sounds fascinating.  I think you may have misinterpreted my posts - perhaps because I haven't tended to repeat the main point too often, but tried to build on it. So for the record, and…"

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement
"David: "So my suggestion is that we look for people around RSA who are trying to do that ... Catalyst, social entrepreneurs, youth link, other interest and regional networks ... and find what they need to do that better online and offline. How,…"

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement
"Glad to see your comments, Matthew.  I think it is very important for the staff to be engaged in these discussions.  It seems everyone is overwhelmed and has limited time available, and yet, somehow new initiatives keep getting…"

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement
"Thanks David: "I like the wide functionality of this site, but you can't participate via email - which people like - and there isn't a link to substantial personal profiles ... which people do keep up to date on Linkedin. In addition,…"

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement
"Is Matthew M involved in this discussion?  I'm conscious that ideas are being put forward that may seem to trample over his area of work and hos support/engagement/leadership could be beneficial. The idea of all these groups etc is a…"

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement
"David: "For example, the byelaws say you shouldn't use "FRSA" for business purposes - so it should not be on your business card, I guess." ByeLaws 2009:13.14: "Any Fellow is authorised to use the style or title of…"

Dr Graham Wilson commented on General (Ret) Robert Goodwin III's blog post 'Greetings from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada'
"Hello Robert Well done for taking the initiative to introduce yourself.  I think it is probably stereotypical British reserve that explains why so few new Fellows do so, which makes it rather difficult to network effectively.  Is there a…"

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement

Dr Graham Wilson replied to David Wilcox's discussion 'Collaborating towards a more fully networked RSA' in the group Digital Engagement

Yes
Profile information
I get an enormous kick out of seeing people achieve things that they never dreamt they could do.

An ethologist and psychotherapist, I spent the first half of my career helping to create workplaces where the leaders saw their role as nurturers of future leaders, and where the staff were genuinely empowered to make decisions and take action that could enhance their customer's experience of the organisation.

Together we did some pretty amazing things; I wrote several books, and was very fortunate to be awarded a Churchill Fellowship allowing me to study similar initiatives in India, Japan and the United States (USA).

I began to focus on leadership development as I saw this group as the major catalyst (and, of course, potential obstacles) in this kind of 'excellence' culture. For the last 15yrs, I have worked behind the scenes with leaders from all kinds of organisations and around the world, as a confidant (www.the-confidant.info) - helping them understand company psychodynamics, situations, politics, and their own and other people's behaviour - managing their own careers - and, when appropriate, supporting them in their search for new jobs (www.executive-post.info).

The focus, throughout, is on a better understanding of their own beliefs and values and the creation of places to work that are sustainable, nurturing of individuals, and that excel in serving all stakeholders.

Along the way, I also qualified as an inter-faith minister - 'never instead of, always in addition to', we work with no fixed creed or prescriptive set of beliefs, supporting those individuals who do not fit into established Faiths, or are excluded from them, and yet have a sense of the spiritual (through a sense of connectedness with nature and love for others).

Chair of three charities - The South Central Ambulance Service League of Friends, All Hallows House Foundation, and the Surrey Branch of the Royal Life Saving Society.

Dr Graham Wilson's Blog

What exactly is an entrepreneur?

I've been doing a lot of work around the nature of entrepreneurism lately, and thought it might be a worthwhile topic to explore with a wider group of people too.

Mention the term 'entrepreneur' to the public and you'll get very different definitions. Probably because of programmes like the Dragon's Den, many people actually confuse the individual with an idea with the investor providing the money to make it happen. Most will also assume that the term was an invention of the…
