Ian Lewis replied to Matt Lent's discussion 'Initial reflections on our first meeting' in the group Linking With Youth

Ian Lewis replied to Matt Lent's discussion 'What's in a name?' in the group Linking With Youth
"Young RSA RSA Young People RSA Youth Network RSA Youth Adults initiating youth programmes seem a poor offering. YP have the capacity and need to self-generate/test ideas through their own, or at the most, facilitated experiences. Early involvement…"

Linking With Youth

This is a group to discuss and make progress on the proposal for a fellowship-led youth linking initiative.Mobilising the FRSA to link, in a structured way, with young people in order to provide information, advice, guidance and support. The broad outline is to build a network of young people, and tap into existing networks, creating an active link, both live and online, between young people and the FRSA.The motivation and focus for bringing these groups together is to:  1). develop a structured…See More

Ian Lewis commented on Maurizio Fantato's blog post 'Why I don't believe in the Big Society...'
"First there were fairies who needed to be believed in, then there were banks and monetary systems which have shown both need to be believed in.  So why not also believe in the Big Society? It strikes me that it has something more of true worth…"

Life, the Universe and Everything II - Physiological Spirituality

Life is a strange commodity. We all have some of it. We value it variously. It can run out surprisingly quickly. How to use it is an interesting question amongst many interesting questions on life. How many years we have in life will never be more important than how much life we put into our years. Some would talk about experience as fundamental, and some of these say experience is as to intensity not duration. We know we would all astound ourselves if we did all of which we are capable.…See More

Ian Lewis replied to Tessy Britton's discussion 'Beyond the Big Society Report' in the group Big Society
"Possibly the greatest indicator in these Big Society posts is the lack of responses/discussion.  My work with ongoing, - and long-term - and long-standing Big Society initiatives shows that with a little more focus a tipping point in…"

Project Collaboration

As collaboration continues to enhance itself through improved skills and understandings, so too collaborative values are changing attitudes - the 'firm-wiring' of power, ownership and independence is weakening in favour of closer working and sharing.  'The whole' of collaboration - what it can mean, could do, is and perhaps must do - is becoming enlightened, both dramatically and quietly. I have contacted a number of fellows who wish to support this area as a project 'Project Collaboration'. …See More

Profile Information

Are you an RSA Fellow?
Yes
Profile information
I work globally on leadership and organisational development with a particular focus on visionary leadership motivation and experience - why the new leaders, what they are doing and want to do. This has given me the opportunity to lead events and projects for global organisations such as UN and UNESCO, national projects in US, UK, France, Bulgaria, Romania and a number of non-global multi-national projects.

Key areas are visionary thinking, innovative ideas and their implementation, often linked to new economics. I work with both individuals and organisations, current ones being Lloyds Bank, The Body Shop, BBC, RCGP, Brathay Trust and the English Outdoor Council.

In the UK and six other countries, Campaign for Adventure is a culture-change project which I coordinate.

Being proud of the RSA and especially so of being a fellow. I am looking forward to distilling where the energy is in the Fellowship Council and finding where its effect can be most usefully applied and to what end/s for humanity.

Connectome: How the brain’s wiring makes us who we are

Rising star in the field of neuroscience Sebastian Seung argues that our identity lies not in our genes but in the connections between our brain cells – and he describes the monumental task of mapping these “connectomes”, neuron by neuron, synapse by synapse.
