Why I don't believe in the Big Society...

While the RSA has been trying to define what Big Society is and the media has all but lost interest on this topic, like most of the people of this country by the way, it doesn't cease to amaze me that this debate is still continuing in some sectors.I am sure spin doctors are laughing all the way to the pub, since it is obvious that this concept was mere electioneering, devised in such an obfuscatory way to make it virtually impossible to define clearly, so that as much ink as possible would be…See More

Big Society

A conversation about how people are interpreting the concept of Big Society and does it need tightening as Matthew Taylor suggests, or might a 'baggy' concept be a strength and help more people get involved?

Education is always at the top of every government's agenda and quite rightly so, however, in the UK the debate about education has often been unsurprisingly insular and very much focussed on the "comfort areas" of A levels and GCSE.  Of course, the Baccalaureate isn't new, but not many people may know that the UK some 30 years or so ago signed an agreement with the then EC for a "European Baccalaureate", with a school operating from Culham, Oxfordshire.  I have been engaged with this project…See More
