Would anyone like to know more about European Education?

Education is always at the top of every government's agenda and quite rightly so, however, in the UK the debate about education has often been unsurprisingly insular and very much focussed on the…Continue

Yet more challenging times ahead for manufacturing?

Mention ‘summit’ and instinctively you conjure up the idea of heads of state flying across the globe to ‘sort out problems’.  So, when the Manufacturing Summit organised by the IET in London on April 18 was announced, I was determined to attend to learn more about the issues at stake and the state of this sector. What most people forget is that when heads of state meet up for such events, all the groundwork has already been done by their…See More

Social Media 2013 - the battle of the Titans has just commenced

The other day, while rummaging in the inner recesses of one of my drawers, I came across my old crystal ball.  It hadn’t been used in a long while and was showing signs of neglect so I decided to give it another go. Rather than checking for lottery numbers I decided to see what social media changes we will experience in 2013; I am, after all, a bit of a geek.  The ball was a little dusty, so I had to spend…See More

Futurology, for PR

You would have noticed that I enjoy talking about innovation and in particular how future applications will evolve to affect the field of communication, and therefore our own area of expertise.I am a great believer that we have firmly entered into a new era of communication standards, one in which our role as PR professional will change radically.  Yes, of course, for a few more years we’ll still be making a few bucks following the old order, but what the last decade should have taught us is…See More

The demise of local media may be bad for all

Printed media is currently facing a crisis and every PR professional knows this.  Yet while national papers and magazines are still managing to eke out a decent living, the situation at local level is dire.  So bad that even national papers like The Sunday Times have taken the trouble to write at length about this problem.Instinctively many PR professionals may just shrug this matter off as either trade media or the nationals have been the…See More

What's it all about?

Every day, we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data — so much that 90% of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years alone.  This statement comes from IBM and they must know a thing or two about data.  But what can we do with so much stuff?  Is it humanly (and commercially) possible to digest such a gargantuan level of information?Take for example something close to the heart of many PR practitioner: web…See More

Profile Information

Are you an RSA Fellow?
Yes
Profile information
I have been a Fellow since early 2010 and I have enjoyed greatly meeting likely minded individuals and attending some of the RSA events. Shortly after I joined the RSA I became involved with the Thames Valley Events Committee, where I was able to help developing a broad range of activities in conjunction with other Fellows. I was elected a member of the South Central Region Council in 2012 and am working with all the other Council members in order to create a stimulating and dynamic environment for Fellows in our region.

Why I Am A Bjorn Lomborg Fan

I have to make a confession, which will probably alienate me from some of the most extremists green activists: I am a fan of Bjorn Lomborg.  Now, before you reach for your laptop, tablet or smartphone and start sending me nasty messages about it let me at least explain to you what I like about Mr Lomborg.

The excellent article in today's…

The Tyranny of Email

I didn’t even know there was a book on the subject but I discovered it while I was doing a little bit of research, as I enjoy writing something original or at the very least if I need to use someone’s ideas, I want to make sure they are fully acknowledged.  In my native language I would refer to this habit as to a “professional deformation”, which makes…
