Sustainable Social Enterprise

I couldn't have been the only person listening to Ronnie Cohen last week - in the flesh or online - who thought 'Yes but what you are describing isn't a truly sustainable model'.  He mentioned with…Continue

Profile information
I'm a social entrepreneur & I do two things - help people fund and create social enterprises & design and develop museums and exhibitions.

Current projects include a low carbon mixed use social enterprise development, Heartlands, Cornwall in the south west of the UK. On a 15 acre site, this £35 million development includes a park, new village centre, energy generation systems, children's centre, visitor centre, artists studios, live work units, new market squares and housing. Since 2006 I have involved in all aspects of the project, acting as an adviser to Cornwall Council. I designed and (substantially) wrote the application to the Big Lottery Fund which raised £22 million in 2007. This has levered in a further £13 million to the scheme.

Current projects also include acting as Curator of the Future for the London Transport Museum for the Sense & the City project, Connected Communities with the RSA, work with the BBC and RCA on the Connected Home project and a number of other design initiatives, including a recent collaboration with BDP, Manchester to re-imagine (light and animate) Oxford Road.

Past projects have included the first children's museum in the UK, Eureka!, the World of Glass in St Helens in the North West of England and the Stirling Prize winning Magna Science Adventure Centre in South Yorkshire, where I was the founding Director.

I've been involved with the RSA work on social capital since 2008. I'm on the Connected Communities Steering Group.

On a 15 acre site at Pool (north west Cornwall) this £35 million development includes a park, new village centre, energy generation systems, children's centre, visitor centre, artists studios, live work units, new market squares and…
