I thought I'd put my candidate statement on this Ning. I've been involved in creating and driving Incredible Edible Todmorden. It's been a great journey and it's a privilege to have made a difference locally. Taking that knowledge and know-how, I'm keen to widen my reach and empower other fellows to make a social impact.
In Yorkshire we are blessed with countless examples of how Fellows actions are shifting behaviours and encouraging hope. I believe in turning thoughts into actions and have practiced what I preach over the past thirty years - recently through Incredible Edible.
As leader of a local authority, chair of a Health Trust, vice chair of the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Assembly and Yorkshire delegate to the Committee of the Regions I have had the interests of our communities at the forefront of my mind.
Beyond our boundaries as vice chair of the Countryside Agency and now Chair of the Forestry Commission of Great Britain, I have seen the benefits that flow from having a national position informed by local knowledge.
As a business woman, I know the needs of our commercial sectors and how they thrive when they can inform the national regeneration debates, bringing public and private together for the greater good.
In the years that I have operated across these sectors, there has never been more need for those of us who are in a position to put those thoughts, dreams and ambitions for the people and the places we love into action than now. It's time for us all to work together
In the past year I have spoken to Fellows across the country who are making a real difference in their communities, challenging the status quo not with placards, but with generosity of spirit. Evidencing the power of small actions.
I want to build on this. In the words of Jose Feliciano ' The time to hesitate is through'
Comment by Jemima Gibbons on July 3, 2012 at 10:51 Hi Pam,
Many thanks for posting this: although I'm not in Yorkshire, it's good to know why you are standing and what you hope to bring to the Fellowship Council. In the absence of a dedicated online forum for regional candidates, I wonder if you might consider joining the lively debate now taking place in the At large candidates group: the issues being addressed are relevant to all candidates; if there is enough demand, we are considering opening up the group to all candidates (rather than have a fragmented discussion take place in different places). Many thanks, Jemima
Comment by Pam Warhurst on July 3, 2012 at 20:00 Thanks Jemima. I've just joined the group and taking a look at the conversations in there. As you said a lot of the conversations are topical to regions, not just at large candidates. Opening it up to all candidates would certainly widen the debate and perhaps start formulating a general consensus as the key issues the new fellowship council needs to address?
Comment by Jemima Gibbons on July 4, 2012 at 8:35 That's great Pam - please feel free to introduce yourself in the comments also - and would be good to have your take on things such as the future of the Fellowship Council and election communications next time round!

Over the next few months the RSAde Group will be consolidating regional social networks and nings.
The aim will be to improve connectivity for Fellows, improve communication and reduce fragmentation.
If you would like further information on these changes please contact the RSAde team via the Digital Engagement group on this network.
